About Our Chapter

The Need

Nearly 360,000 people call Lane County home. Last year, DHS received over 9,000 call to report Child Abuse or Neglect last year, and over 1,500 children spent time in Foster Care. There is a great need to connect families with resources and support systems, and to help prevent future child abuse and neglect.

Our Churches

Safe Families is a movement of hundreds of Christian families who have opened their homes to care for children whose parents are struggling. By demonstrating biblical hospitality, Safe Families returns the church to the forefront of caring for “orphans and widows.” Some of our partner churches include:

Grace Community Fellowship, Eugene

Christ’s Center, Junction City

Northwood Christian Church, Springfield

East Side Baptist Church, Springfield

6th and Gibbs Church of Christ, Cottage Grove

Cottage Grove Faith Center

We are constantly looking for more churches and individuals in the Eugene/Springfield area to partner with. Please email AngelaA@cafaweb.com if you are interested in having a Safe Families presentation at your church.

CAFA

Christians As Family Advocates (CAFA) is the implementing agency behind SFFC in Lane County.

Christians As Family Advocates has been offering mental health services to Lane County, Oregon since 1994.  Licensed and Master’s level therapists work with clients toward mental health goals as well as share their expertise in the fields of domestic violence intervention, child abuse prevention and parenting by providing education and trainings with the goal of creating a collective impact in our community. CAFA is a 501(c)(3) community mental health agency offering services and support to adults, children and families.

Partnership with Every Child

Every Child is a statewide Oregon effort, in partnership with DHS, to help alleviate the foster care crisis. There are too many children entering care and not enough foster families. The goal is to educate churches and individuals with a call to activate the community. To solve this crisis, we are aiming to not only engage new foster parents, but to limit the number of children coming into care in the first place. Safe Families is partnering with Every Child as a preventative program to support families before DHS intervention is needed.
